Individual Social Communication & Awareness Coaching
Helping children and young adults build social confidence through personalized, one-on-one support.
Why Individual Social Communication & Awareness Coaching Matters
Some children and teens benefit most from direct, individualized support, especially when navigating friendships, social conflict, or emotional regulation feels overwhelming.
At Key Connections, our individual Social Communication Coaching program focuses on the intersection of social and self-awareness. Through meaningful conversations, reflection, and real-life practice, we help children, teens, and young adults gain a deeper understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and actions and how these impact their relationships.
With compassionate coaching, our clients acquire the tools to connect with others more confidently, effectively advocate for their needs, and feel more in control of navigating challenging social situations.
Our Approach
Our individual coaching sessions are designed to meet each client exactly where they are. We use a flexible, strengths-based approach that adapts to your child’s unique needs and goals. Sessions can take place virtually, in person, or—when appropriate—even within your child’s natural social environment, such as a school or after-school program.
We guide clients in building skills through real or imagined scenarios, visual tools, discussion, and interactive practice.
Common areas of focus may include:
Understanding emotions and expanding emotional vocabulary
Perspective-taking and empathy building
Conflict resolution and collaborative problem-solving
Developing self-advocacy and communication strategies
Negotiation, compromise, and respectful disagreement
Strengths identification and self-reflection
Friendship-building and maintaining relationships
Social behavior mapping and growth mindset coaching
Tools and concepts from Social Thinking®, Zones of Regulation®, and Size of the Problem®
Who benefits from Social Communication Coaching?
Our coaching is ideal for children and teens who may:
Prefer individualized support over group settings
Struggle with friendship dynamics or peer conflict
Experience social anxiety or confusion in group situations
Need support managing big emotions or navigating social expectations
Would benefit from building stronger self-awareness and communication tools
Thrive with focused, one-on-one attention to practice real-life skills
We help clients connect to who they are and, from there, build the confidence and clarity to connect with others.
Our coaching is personalized, affirming, and grounded in strong, trusting relationships between client and coach. Whether we're working through a friendship dilemma, navigating a tough transition, or building a personalized toolbox of strategies, we’re here to support lasting growth and real-world success.
When appropriate, coaching may also take place in a client’s natural social environment—such as their school, after-school program, or other community setting—offering even more relevant opportunities to practice and apply their skills.
